I think anyone can agree, conservative or liberal, Trump’s first 100 days into his second term have been quite rocky. A president’s power is usually the strongest in their first year, and where we currently are in Trump’s time in office, he has already set the tone for what his administration has in store for the U.S.
Immigration
President Trump made a very bold claim in his 2nd presidential campaign claiming to generate the largest deportation scheme in all of U.S history. In his very first term as president, he had already oversaw just under a million deportations across the country. During his final year, he had deported an additional 186,000 immigrants. Throughout January and heading into April, ICE reported 32,809 deportations just in those three months alone. The Trump administration made a push to target sanctuary states which included: Illinois, California, Arizona, and Colorado. In just 100 days the Trump Administration had already dramatically reshaped the U.S immigration policy, with orders that included taking away birthright citizenship, and the revocation of student visas.
Economy
Towards the beginning of Trump’s second term, he made a promise to the people to end inflation and “make America affordable again” by attempting to make groceries cheaper, passing tax cuts, and the most currently controversial method—tariffs. April 2nd, 2025 will go down in history as Trump’s “Liberation Day.” Many around the world were stunned by the tariffs initiated by President Trump. The S&P 500 fell more than 3%, while Nasdaq lost over 4%. The damage was enough to make it one of the largest stock market drops in history. While many states can not directly combat the tariffs, lowering the burden on working families is their main priority. Many state governors are at work trying to protect their citizens from the economic hardship Trump is imposing. As the market continues to sky rocket and then crash again. Many staff members in the Trump Administration remain confident that the tariffs is exactly what America needs. The percentage has been continuously decreasing on China to lower the burden on Americans, but are still hopeful to bring more businesses back to the U.S.
International Conflicts
We all remember the surprising statement Trump made before he took office, which included a promise to end the war in Ukraine “in less than 24 hours”. It has been 100 days since that statement, and the war has in fact not ended yet. In a recent tweet made by President Trump, he claimed the strikes on Kyiv were “unnecessary” and followed up with “Vladimir, STOP!” It is no doubt Trump is hoping for a peace deal to be made in the following months, but his effort currently has many people around the world skeptical. Iran nuclear talks have also continued throughout Trump’s presidency in an effort to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Claiming if they get ahold of one, “your lives will be in great danger,”
You can find a lot more of Trump’s 100 days takeaways from other sources. Until then, people around the world will watch closely as we watch what other steps the administration will take heading into the future.
