Earlier this morning, the news came out that both McLarens were in violation of the technical regulations. These regulations require a minimum of 9mm skid thickness.
Norris’s car was in violation by a maximum of 0.12mm of the rearmost skid, while Piastri’s car was in violation by 0.26mm of the rearmost skid.
The McLaren team released a statement online claiming that both cars experienced “unexpected, high levels of porpoising” during the race.
The FIA noted the violation as unintentional, as McLaren claimed there was no deliberate attempt to move around the violation.
Both McLaren drivers were disqualified from the race, which had both drivers leave the weekend with no points.
As both drivers were disqualified, this allowed Kimi Antonelli to move into P3, giving Mercedes a double podium.
